There were many happy faces on Sunday morning at the Ohana Foundation Book Fair for our youngsters. It was hard to tell if the smiles were wider on the volunteers or the kids. The children received a bag filled with 15 books. Then they got to try out being firefighters! After that they visited the gift tent where they received lots of goodies.
Thank you to Susan Anderson and Pam Krug for additional photos.
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – To accommodate growing crowds to see Mauna Loa’s fiery show, a safe public viewing area was opened Thursday along Old Saddle Road. Officials are hoping the viewing area addresses growing concern about congestion on Daniel K. Inouye Highway.“Hopefully relieving that traffic congestion and relieving some of the safety issues and concerns that we have,” said Talmadge Magno of the Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency. (you will also get closer than these shots.) On Wednesday night, master photographer Bill McDowell took these photos from the top of Mauna Kea.

Hualalai’s ocean front felt the effects of the warning-level surf that closed some of the beaches on Hawaii Island. The spectacular waves are coinciding with another round of extreme early-morning high tides. This makes for a glorious but messy sight. Thank you to the Hualali crews that cleaned up lava, rocks and sand! Thanks Becky Holman for this last shot!
DIVOT PLACEMENT WITH JAKE BELVEAL When breaking down your swing and contact point with the ball and the ground, knowing where your divot placement is will help you learn a lot about your swing. By transferring our weight toward the target on the downswing portion of our golf swing, we can make our center of gravity move forward of the ball. This will create a divot in front of the ball instead of behind. Next time you are at the range or playing a round, keep a mental note of this and see where you end up so you can adjust. Geckos are a part of our household at Hualalai. Especially fond of our guestroom, they have created multi level dwellings from corner to corner. We try to evict, but they’re smarter and faster than we are. I hadn’t realized that their diet consists of spiders, cockroaches, ants and centipedes, none a particular favorite of mine. This gecko caught one of the beautiful phantom moths that also like living around here. No way would it let go. Newly improved, the lap pool by the spa is back. We missed you!
