Rhonda Peed

Rhonda and Tom Peed

Tom and Rhonda Peed have been together since they were teenagers in Iowa. Right from the beginning they discovered that, as a team, they could create businesses that take off…businesses that fill the high-end niche markets.

Join Tom and Rhonda at Ke ‘Olu on April 6th at 7PM for the second “Know your Neighbor” event of the year.

The Peeds will share with you the fascinating (and fun) story of how they developed businesses in publishing, chicken raising, gourmet beef development and Golf Courses.

The Mooch (Realty Reception) on April 3rd is being held at 72-106 Ahinahina.

Connie McHugh Shared Her Story at Know Your Neighbor Last Night

About 35 people joined Connie and her interviewers, Mike and Barbara, in the Living Room of Ke ‘Olu.  For about an hour Connie shared with us her experience growing up in Manila in the midst of WWII.  Everyone listened with empathy as Connie told personal stories of her family coping with the indignities and hell of war.  Thank you, Connie, for letting us to get to know you better.

Welcome Colin Clark, Ou new General Manager

Colin Clark

Aloha Hualalai Club Members,
I am delighted to announce today the appointment of Colin Clark as my successor in the role of General Manager, Four Seasons Resort Hualalai. Colin arrives to Hualalai later this month to complete a thorough handover with me, returning full time in late April.

On Monday, March 27th we invite you to meet Colin ahead of our Monday reception at Ke‘olu Clubhouse. Our Pacific Heritage series has a full evening of performance planned, so Colin will join Debbie and myself for an introduction and meet and greet with all of you at 4:30pm. Colin looks forward to learning from you what makes Hualalai Club so special so that his work with Debbie supports the Club’s interests and long-term goals, and we all look forward to seeing you there.

I am particularly excited to welcome Colin to Hualalai as I believe his deep experience, cultural sensitivity and global perspective will ensure a seamless transition. Throughout Colin’s more than 25-year career, he has developed a true understanding of wellness culture, local influences and a lifestyle of fitness at luxury properties in Hong Kong, Singapore, Bali, Bangkok, the UK and the US. Demonstrating his passion for hospitality, Colin has earned the respect of colleagues, succeeding in roles as Reception Manager, Hotel Manager, Resort Manager and General Manager, as well as Spa Lead for the Americas. As General Manager for Four Seasons Hotel in Hampshire, England, Colin built the hotel’s reputation, while adding land and activities to the estate, and as General Manager for Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach, Colin and his team completed major enhancements, weathered hurricanes, and positioned the resort with the owners for extensive renovations in 2018. This past February, Forbes Travel Guide awarded the Five Star to the Resort for the nineteenth consecutive year.

Proud to be a Scot, Colin graduated from Napier University in Edinburgh, Scotland, with an HND in Hotel Business Management. When in college, Colin was given the gift of an airline ticket to anywhere in the world, and his chosen destination was Hawai‘i. He is looking forward to embracing the island lifestyle and the deeply rooted Hawaiian culture. He and his family all love the outdoors, being fit and staying active. Colin is a triathlete and is excited to be here for the Ironman. Maybe one day he will even get to participate in it. For now, he is looking forward to meeting everyone and becoming part of this amazing ‘ohana.

Please join me in wishing Colin and his wife Natascha our warmest aloha as they are welcomed into the Hualalai ‘Ohana. Their daughter Nadja continues to attend UCF in Orlando and looks forward to adventures on Hawai‘i Island over her future holidays.

With Aloha,

Robert Whitfield

Connie McHugh

Consuelo Hall McHugh was born into a prominent Spanish/British/Filipino family in Manila, Philippines. She arrived in the United States when she was 16, completed high school and graduated from the University of California. She currently resides in Mill Valley, California. She is the mother of 2 sons and a daughter and the grandmother of 6. Connie and her late husband Bob McHugh joined the Hualalai Ohana in 2001.
For the past 25 years, Connie has researched and studied about World War II in the Philippines. She co-founded Memorare Manila 1945 an organization in the Philippines that yearly commemorates the over 100,000 civilians killed in the Battle of Manila.
Connie has written her own private memoir, A Child of War, and has spoken to groups in the Bay Area about her experiences. She has collaborated with her brother in establishing his Roderick Hall Collection at the Ayala Museum’s Filipinas Heritage Library in Manila. The collection, a center for the study & research of the war, consists of over 1,000 books & memoirs, interviews, archival information, films & photographs.
Connie is also a member of Bataan Legacy Historical Society based in Berkeley which, after 3 years, was successful in obtaining approval from the California Department of Education and the California Legislature to include WWII in the Philippines in the 11th grade history texts books. She has co-chaired three Bataan Legacy conferences on different topics about the war. The fourth conference will be held at the University of San Francisco on September 9, 2017, highlighting the Filipino Guerillas, the Battle of Leyte Gulf and the Manila War Crimes Trials.

Connie’s talk “A Child of War” is a unique perspective from the eyes of a very young child of what it was like to live under the Japanese occupation, culminating in the Battle of Manila and finally, liberation.
