Presenting the New Canoe Club

It was a rainy day on December 20, 2017 when we gathered to bless the remodel of the Canoe Club.

Wanted: To purchase a used treadmill

I’m interested in purchasing a used treadmill.  If you are selling one contact me:  Arlene Saffro at arlenesaf@aol.com

A glimpse at the New Canoe Club

We sort of sneaked in today and grabbed a quick shot of the New Canoe Club (which will be opening in a few days).  I think you are able to see the regular pool and then just beyond the regular pool you can see a segment of the lower pool (upright umbrellas line it).  Then to the right you see the wooden deck that is raised up and has chaises on it as well as umbrellas.

Spa has Open House sharing the upgrades.

Today between 3pm and 5pm there was an open house at the Spa, showcasing the new floors that were installed and the new equipment that was put in place.  Massage therapists, spa technicians, trainers were all around explaining various equipment and techniques.  Guests could get a mini massage or other quick free treatments.  Drinks and Pupus were served.

Member Socialized around the pool and met with various employees.

Tours were given of the Aerobic exercise equipment

And everything has changed in the Weight Room

Donna Chipps honored.

Dr. Ray Lagger presented a gift from the Ohana Foundation Board to Donna Chipps’ three years of fabulous service to the Foundation. She served as head of the Medical Committee of the Ohana Foundation as well as recently serving as President of the Foundation.  Donna has not only been active with the Ohana Foundation, but she has also been a major resource to members who may have some medical issues.  If any member, employee or guest had a medical issue and Donna was around she would offer her nursing services to help them.  Donna was also very involved in the tennis program here at Hualalai.  We will miss you, Donna and know  that you are loved.

Monk Seal and her pup found near Hualalai

My parents were touring a beach close to the resort & took these shots.   Don’t worry – they were well behind the roped off area the park ranger had set up and the park ranger was there! Apparently this monk seal has had four babies over the past few years and unfortunately has rolled over on three of them. They are watching her closely.

John Legend Performed at Hualalai on December 1st

After a delightful dinner of Pizzas and sliders and salad at the Beach House, members were invited to watch John Legend in concert on the golf practice range.  The concert was part of the week long celebration that Cisco has every year at the Four Seasons.  Following the performance we were all treated to a fabulous display of fireworks.  Here’s a clip of both, keep in mind it was very windy evening.

Introducing The Hualalai Club Member Wine Program

We are pleased to announce the launch of our new Wine Program available only to Hualalai Club Members. Recognizing that many of our Members truly value unique wine experiences, we have been working to enhance our offerings at our private Member facilities. We are fortunate to have a number of good partners in Hawaii licensed to distribute wine, but found it challenging to find the depth and breadth of wines that we would like. Over the course of the past year we began working with our Member Leon Dreimann who is the Managing Partner of The Elevation Wine Fund LP, experts at procuring wines from legendary vineyards around the world. Working closely with the Hawaii Department of Liquor Control, The Elevation Wine Fund was finally able to secure a license to distribute in Hawaii. We are pleased to now be able to offer a wonderful selection of wines at special Club pricing at Ke’olu and the Hualalai Canoe Club and for special order retail purchase at The Trading Company. I think Leon says it best in his introduction to the new wine list:

One lifetime is not enough for us to learn all we would wish to know about wine, so what we read, the debates we have, the questions we ask and, most importantly, the wines we drink, are integral to our learning. We chose wines for members of Hualalai, that sing with food and which keep luring us back to the glass. The wines offered here are wines that hopefully can teach us something about a variety, a region, a vineyard and the winemaking and the people who have contributed to producing them. The vineyards, the passion and the seasons all come together to offer us something very special to enjoy and to match with the different foods, tastes and flav
ors.

This provides you with an opportunity in learning, exploring and celebrating these magnificent varieties and their many different styles and expressions from around the world. There are almost endless opportunities to explore and compare producers, regions and vintages. However, rather than offering a broad number of producers with limited representation of their wines from each region we have tried to focus on a smaller number of leading producers and provide as many options as possible across vintages, vineyards and varieties from each of them. This list is a work in progress and will evolve over time. In many instances we have acquired wines that fit a theme, fill one of the many gaps or are simply a curiosity, even though they may be single bottles. Therefore some wines on the list are a one off opportunity to enjoy and will ultimately have to be replaced by something new. Throughout the list, I have included information that may be of interest to you on some of the key varieties, regions and producers. Leon Dreimann
