Six months ago, Alan Dubroff became the only employee to work directly for the residential owners of Hualalai when he was hired by the Hualalai Community Association as the Association Manager. Alan is very clear that he has nothing to do with either the Hualalai Club or the full resort. He is responsible to the Board of Directors of the Hualalai Community Association. So, what does that mean? Well, these are the areas that Alan oversees at Hualalai: All common area owned by the Association which includes 8½ miles of roads, landscaping 15 foot easements on the sides of the roads, 2 greeter stations (the front gate and construction gate), the Beach Park facilities near Kukio, goat fencing, contracts with security, and the Coqui Frog elimination program. Alan is also responsible to and helps the Development Review Board in reviewing all new designs, construction, and exterior renovations as well as handling View Plane issues with the View Plane Committee. This portion of his job takes about 60% -70% of his time. He is also involved in helping the 21 Districts (neighborhoods) and 17 Condo Associations within Hualalai elect Delegates so every neighborhood and Condo Association can be represented and involved in the Community Association’s democratic process. Alan’s interest in Community Associations began years ago in the Florida Keys when he was working for a boat yard and eventually became involved in the development of a large resort/residential project. He then moved to Colorado and managed the Village at Breckenridge. From there he moved to Northern California and then to Maui. Alan and his wife of 23 years, Camille, finally arrived on the Big Island when he got this job. When they left the Florida Keys their intent was to eventually get to the Big Island. Welcome Alan and Camille. Camille is happily ensconced in Hapuna’s Human Resources Department, and they have settled in Waimea where they love both their new home and their new community. On Feb 1 the Hualalai Community Association will be meeting at 9am at Ke ‘Olu. Alan will be there to greet and get to know you and he wants everyone to know that they should feel free to reach out to him with any questions or issues. His phone number is 808.313.0595. Email: alan.dubroff@hualalaicommunityassociation.org. Which reminds me that one of the first things Alan did was set up the web site for our association: www.hualalaicommunityassociation.org. Check it out and register. Alan wants to convey to all home owners that they can reach out to him. Though be aware he is on vacation next week, so don’t feel hurt if he doesn’t respond immediately, he will be out of the country. The Mitsubishi Electric Golf Tournament is in full swing. The Golf Channel is all over the Hualalai course broadcasting the tournament live.
About 65 people jammed into the Ke ‘Olu Living Room (standing room only) while Bill shared his tales and photos of traveling to Mongolia and photographing the Eagle Hunters. CJ Stiles, Bill’s mentor and fellow traveler joined him in sharing the stories. Barbara Britt, fellow member, helped in leading the discussion.

NOTE: Apologies for the not so great photos. Also hoping to report more information about the content of the Annual Meeting in the near future. A number of people of asked for the recipe for the almond-conconut Orange Cake served at the Chanukah Dinner at Ke ‘Olu. When I make it, I boil the seedless oranges on the stovetop on a slow boil until soft, about 2 hours and then pulverize in the cuisinart until a mushy pulp is formed. ( yes! rind and all!)
