Bill McDowell’s done it again!
The Hualalai Ohana Foundation’s Rounders Classic was a huge success. Everyone had fun while raising funds to help the wonderful employees on the Hualalai campus.
Bill McDowell captured two outstanding board members of the Ohana Foundation that make everything work so well.
Ke’olu’s olive oil tasting and dinner was a huge success. Maria Paola Gabusi, an internationally recognized extra virgin olive oil expert, was so informative (as well as charming). I learned so much about olive oil that it will change my life. (a snippet of info: keep olive oil in a dark, cool place to increase its longevity. Also, don’t buy large sizes of olive oil. ) We sampled six different extra virgin olive oils, becoming semi-experts, ourselves. (Well, at least we learned how to sample them.) Then we savored the five-course inventive meal Chef Michael expertly prepared and served. The whole evening was one of elegance and flair. Congratulations to Heidi Svendsen, Events Coordinator, Shelbie Sanoria and the whole Ke’olu staff.

At Hualalai, we are so fortunate to experience incredible sunsets, evening after evening. This pink sunset was a tribute to Tom Callero, who was killed in an auto accident four years ago. Tom was a beloved Beach Tree bartender.
Also, Bill McDowell has captured some incredible sunset shots for us. Each punctuates our thanks for Mike Sack’s successful kidney transplant surgery.
Members were treated to a special experience when Moses Goods presented a program of Hawaiian legends and stories. We also enjoyed pupus and wine.

This fabulous rainbow shot was taken by Becky Holman. Unfortunately to see it properly, you’ll have to tilt your head to the left. I’ve tried to straighten it in several different ways, but it always ends up on its side in the blog. HELP!!!
A bird’s eye view from Bill McDowell of the top of Mauna Kea when it was covered in snow.
The celebration of Valentine’s Day at Ke’olu was sweet. From the long stem red rose each woman was presented to the lovingly covered strawberries at the end, the evening was a Hawaiian dream. While the sun set and Maui became more defined, Ka’ulu blessed us all with her hula.
The Big Island of Hawaii offers so much to see and do! We just took a day trip to the Botanical Gardens in Hilo, enjoying the scenic ride and visiting the Akaka Falls. And the Botanical Gardens? A tropical delight founded by Dan and Pauline Lutkenhouse in 1978 and opened in 1984.
