Paradise in Bloom

It’s that time of year when all the trees are in bloom! In April, the treecutters were here, cutting the trees down to the quick. But never mind. It’s the tropics–the growth spurts are amazing.

Kokua Kit, Round 2, Wednesday, June 17

‘Ohana Kokua Kit Round 2 Distribution
On Wednesday, June 17, The Ohana Foundation will be distributing an additional 237 ‘Ohana Kokua Kits to Hualalai employees.
The furloughed employee distribution will take place outside of the Ohana Foundation offices. There will be a drive-thru Kokua Kit pickup from 9 am to noon.
“We invite you all to come to join us and share your aloha and shakas with employees as they pick up their Kokua Kits. We are mindful of social distancing and the distribution will be done in 3 blocks to ensure things run smoothly,” said Nico Verissimo, the director of the Hualalai Ohana Foundation.
As was in the first round, employees will receive a customized combination of gift cards from local grocers and retailers like KTA Super Stores, Foodland, Target, Costco and Helco utility subsidies. Gratefully, many of these businesses once again stepped up to provide additional cards on our purchase.
The support provided by the Crisis Response Fund has made a tremendous impact on employee well-being and has helped them be able to feed their families during some very difficult times.

A Treat for the Senses:

Sunrise and sunset!

as only Hualalai can do it and Bill McDowell can shoot it!

A Reminder: 14 Day Quarantine

Hualalai and Hawaii have been a safe haven for many of us who have stayed the course, hunkering at Hualalai. Just a reminder, the governor extended the 14 day mandatory quarantine for incoming visitors.

Moving Forward

Hualalai Club is opening up some venues. Again we want to thank all the staff for doing such incredible work to make it viable for us, who are here, to experience more while staying safe.

“Temperature Check Wristbands,” are necessary for entrance and use of any amenities.

Hualalai Golf Course renovation is going full speed ahead.

Here’s the Seventeenth getting a face lift.

The first fantastic photo is by Bill McDowell. The one with some employees waving is mine. This is proof of what I told Bill on Sunday: that we can photograph the same scene, but there’s no comparison. His is always art.

Here is one of the trucks that speeds back and forth, dropping grass. And of course, we all know that Hualalai is the rainbow’s end.

P.S.  The path to the ocean is open!!!!

Temperature Checking Station News

As the days go by and one disaster seems to follow another, it is comforting to know that Hualalai is still here. In this photo by Bill McDowell, the sky seems to echo the drama of the chaos. But the land and sea also calms us. With all the uncertainty, we know the sun will rise and it will set. The ocean will ebb and it will flow. And we know all will be well.

I want to thank the amazing Hualalai staff who have taken care of us who are hunkering at Hualalai. In these difficult times, when so much is changing day-to-day, the staff has consistently looked out for members’ best interests. The next step, opening up in approved CoVid ways has got to take the talent and expertise of a military operation. Mahalo for everything.

Temperature Checking StationBeginning June 2, Tuesday, in the Trading Company parking lot near the concierge offices.    9:00 to noon, 1:00 to 3:00 PM, no appointment necessary. One way Hualalai Club is helping everyone stay well, is by implementing an on-site, temperature checking protocol to help reduce the risk of viral CoVid 19 spread at Hualalai. Members will receive a color-coded wristband, valid for 7 days. Members and guests are required to wear their Successful Temperature Check bands to all facilities. They must be renewed after 7 days.

A New Perspective

One of the benefits of slowing down and staying put is the opportunity to look at what’s around us and actually see it. Foliage abounds at my feet, but I rarely stop to appreciate it.

Sunsets and sunrises are vivid at this time of year. Interestingly, clouds enhance them. Sometimes when you think it is too clouded over, the sun bursts through in glowing colors. (photos by Bill McDowell)

Erin Lee Stars on Instagram, Live

Using the most up-to-date platforms, Four Seasons Hualalai is offering many programs for us electronically. Yesterday, Erin Lee gave an Instagram live demonstration on planting containers. (Don’t ask me why my Video paused. I have a black thumb when it comes to electronics.) I want to plant mint and parsley in a container now.

Check your weekly update for program offerings.

Tiffany’s Art Agency Donating to Ohana Foundation

A Note From Tiffany DeEtte Shafto:

In an effort to support our Island community in these interesting times, I’m donating 10% of art purchases made by Hualalai Members to the Hualalai Ohana Foundation for the duration of the resort closure. While I’ve been donating 10% of the purchases made from our shows at Hualalai Realty, I’m opening up my entire inventory for the cause.

Shore by Kristie Kosmides

Hualalai is where my love of connecting people with local art began seven years ago when we partnered on the Gallery at Hualalai in the hotel lobby. Over the years, through many pop-up shows and special events, as well as my gallery in Hawi, I’ve had the pleasure of serving many members. Hualalai is a truly special community, which is evidenced by the very fact that you have the Hualalai Ohana Foundation.

Koi Meditation by Mary Spears

We have an amazing community of local artists and it’s my pleasure to help you connect with them. We’ll soon have a new show up at Hualalai Realty. Of course, you can shop all available works on the website (TiffanysArtAgency.com) and I will gladly schedule private home showings of anything you’re interested in seeing.

Crossing Paths by Timothy Allan Shafto

Together we can make a difference by supporting our local arts community and Hualalai Ohana.

Sending Warmest Aloha,

Tiffany DeEtte Shafto

Helping Our Pets Survive

COVID-19 is a real human health crisis, but it doesn’t need to be a crisis for our pets too.

Please add unopened bags of dog, cat, puppy and kitten DRY food to your grocery lists. Deliver your bags of pet food to Hualālai Realty, and Barbara Kildow will deliver them to the HIHS on your behalf.

Eye Candy From Bill McDowell

Aloha, Martin Sinclair. Welcome!

Martin Sinclair, the acting manager of Hualalai Club, is out of quarantine and is already involved in moving the club forward to the benefit of membership. He’s been hanging out at The Trading Company, getting to chat with members. You can email Martin at: martin.sinclair@fourseasons.com

Hawaii’s Aloha is on Hold

Hawaii enforces strict lockdown measures

I put on Facebook recently that I feel life has become freeze dried and could fit in a Tubberware bowl.  Instead of hither and thithering, we’ve been locked in place. Now that is changing in many parts of the United States. But Hawaii maintains its 14 day quarantine and is SERIOUS about it. The aloha is still here, but it’s morphed to fit the pandemic times.
