About BIISC: The Big Island Invasive Species Committee works island wide to protect our island’s natural resources and the communities that depend on them from the impacts of invasive species. Through proactive measures such as early detection, rapid response, and community outreach, BIISC is committed to protecting our native forests, communities, and agriculture from new and ongoing threats that threaten our island way of life.
About Kawehi: Kawehi Young currently serves as the Community Engagement Liaison at the Big Island Invasive Species Committee and uses her passion for graphic design, photography, and storytelling to empower collective action against invasive species. She grew up in Hilo and was raised in Panaʻewa. She obtained her BA in Environmental Studies and later her MS in Tropical Conservation Biology & Environmental Science from the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo.
