Meet Kate Jacobsen and Don Albrecht on November 4th from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m
Kate creates beautiful hand painted naked Raku ceramics. They call it naked because they expose the unadorned, earthly beauty of the clay. They celebrate such natural grace by allowing it to speak with its own voice. They call it raku because they fire it in the tradition of Japanese potters. Naked Raku succeeds tradition by using a slip/glaze combination as a resist to the clay. Kate will be here to share additional pieces currently not available in our store and talk to the guests about how she makes these beautiful Raku pottery.
The legendary Don Albrecht is currently the only wood turner in Hawai?i turning natural edge vessels. Don uses only fallen trees and his one-of -a-kind pieces are made from koa, black wattle, cook pine, sugi pine and many many others. I invite you and your friends to come and watch Don work and see his unique collection first hand.
Note: Martin and MacArthur is a new gallery in the Kings Shops at Waikaloa. It is there new flagship store and has beautiful Koa pieces made right here on the Big Island.
