Chantal Prunier recently led the “Walking the Trails of our Ahupua’a” first inaugural Hualalai Ohana Foundation hike. Chantal, a member of the HOF Events Committee, explained the trail system used by Hawaiians for trade between the mauka (upland residents) and the makai (seaside residents.) “As we hiked, we talked about trails, community, patience, specialized skills, trading, transportation and so much more,” Chantal said. “We’ll run this hike again in the future for donors and volunteers of the Hualalai Ohana Foundation as a means to thank people for their involvement.”
“I never realized so much Hawaiian history was right here in the middle of the resort,” Kathy Ferguson, HOF Events Chair, said.
“The walk took slightly less than 2 hours and is probably about a mile and half in length. It’s not strenuous but there are patches with lots of loose rock and in one place lots of golf balls to maneuver around. I think most able-bodied people would be able to complete the walk.”
