Help our Alakai Nalu guys raise funds to compete in the Olamau Paddle Race in June.

Our own Daniel, Randall and Kane from Alakai Nalu are going to race in the Olamau Race in June.

The Alaka’I Nalu of Hualalai Resort is proud to announce that we are participating in the highly prestigious Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe race, Olamau in June.

The Olamau is a three day race spanning 100 miles of some of the most beautiful but grueling coastline in the state.   Your Alaka’I Nalu crew has decided to do the Olamau race for two reasons: first, the Big Island is the races’ venue this year (race islands are rotated annually); and second, we wish to strive and train for a race that is extremely difficult, both in terrain and distance, in order to grow stronger individually and as a crew.

We believe our training and participation in Olamau will benefit the entire Hualalai ‘Ohana; we will be able to pass our ever increasing knowledge of the sport on to you and also continue to learn more about the history, art and sport of paddling.  For example, this race is unique in design, and largely a new style race and challenge to many of the Alaka’I, particularly as the race is adopted from a Tahitian form of racing.

To offset the costs of competing in this three day race we are asking for your kokua (help) in bringing this idea to fruition.  We have secured sponsorship for the $3000 entry fee from Homeowners Tricia McCarthy and Steve Akerley and Tricia’s jewelry company, Nalukai.

We now seek to cover the costs of escort boats and transportation, and seek to raise an additional $6,000 by March 1, 2013.  We ask that you please consider supporting our efforts and making a donation.  As a show of our gratitude and with our humblest appreciation for any and all donations made of $400 or more, we will invite you on one of our training sessions and provide you with a “Team Alaka’I Nalu Olamau Team Sponsor” shirt as a special “mahalo” for your support.

Should you have any questions, please chat with me on the beach or at 808-345-6208.  Donation checks can be made payable to: Daniel K. Perez and given directly to me or mailed to P.O. Box 792 Kapaau HI, 96755.  Also, we added a link on our facebook page:http://www.facebook.com/NaAlakaiNaluOHualalaiPaddleTeam
