ULU ON THE MOVE!

It was my first morning back to Hawaii. We’d been gone for three months and I was thrilled to just sit on my lanai and savor Hualalai’s serenity. Then I heard the unmistakable sound of a helicopter’s rotator blades coming closer…and closer. I looked up and sure enough saw a helicopter approach, low enough that […]

Winter Sure is Swell!

I had to pull my sweatshirt back out on Thursday night at 5:30 PM when the weather did a 180. Back to WINDY and COLD with mauka rain in Waimea. Fortunately, the sun still sets every night!

Oh, What A Beautiful Morning!

It was a busy morning on my lanai. First the sunrise!

Then Kelly’s Tree Service provided further viewing pleasure! These guys were up and down the palm trees, hacking off fronds the old fashioned way!

Huge Swells Mix with High Tides!!

Hualalai’s ocean front felt the effects of the warning-level surf that closed some of the beaches on Hawaii Island. The spectacular waves are coinciding with another round of extreme early-morning high tides. This makes for a glorious but messy sight. Thank you to the Hualali crews that cleaned up lava, rocks and sand!

Wildlife Action is Wild!

Geckos are a part of our household at Hualalai. Especially fond of our guestroom, they have created multi level dwellings from corner to corner. We try to evict, but they’re smarter and faster than we are. I hadn’t realized that their diet consists of spiders, cockroaches, ants and centipedes, none a particular favorite of mine. […]
