April 8 • 9-noon • Kalaemanō Interpretive Center (Located North of Kona Village)
Experience the magnificent Ka‘ūpūlehu coastline, hear stories about family traditions of collecting pa‘akai (sea salt) and i‘a (fish), see petroglyphs and other archaeological sites, learn about the Try Wait/Why Wait rest area to replenish fish, and more!
9-10 – Walking tour of the Ka‘ūpūlehu coastline led by kūpuna and kamaʻāina Leina`ala Keakealani Lightner (gates open at 8:30; walking tour starts at 9am).
10-10:30 – short video and presentation about the Ka‘ūpūlehu Try Wait/Why Wait rest area, led by kūpuna and kamaʻāina Hannah Kihalani Springer.
10:30-12 – informal talk story and moʻolelo with members of the KMLAC, kūpuna and kamaʻāina of the area.
