Meet Joe Buchanan of Hualalai Real Estate

Joe buchanan

Joe Buchanan

Joe Buchanan is a man who gets around. Joe joined the Hualalai Realty Office early in November, coming directly from Kauai, where he worked at Kukui‘ula, a private golf community in Poipu.

Kukui‘ula has some similarities to Hualalai. At the time Joe left they had sixty homes spread over a thousand acres, complete with a golf course designed by Tom Weiskopf, who also designed our own Ke ‘Olu course.   Joe spent five years on Kauai, thoroughly enjoying the lifestyle. Why did he go there with his wife (Kristi) and two children (Liam and Cameron)? He was headhunted and decided to take the leap.

And it wasn’t a short leap because he and his family were living in Noosa Heads, Australia where he was working with a company that invested in high-end real estate projects around the world. How did he get to Noosa Heads, an area near Brisbane? Well, you got it right—again he was headhunted, this time from Esperanza in Cabo San Lucas.

Joe is originally from Berkeley, CA, but instead of going to UCB, he chose the University of San Diego instead, majoring in history. Obviously, the southern climates were already calling to him. He initially became fascinated with Hawaii because his father had sailed to Hawaii on a 45-foot wooden sailboat from California 52 years ago. No GPS then, just sextants.     The crossing took 15 days.

Joe currently lives here, but his wife and kids still remain on Kauai. He hopes to find a home in the Waimea area and once the school season is over the family will move here.

Joe loves watching his boys, who are 15 and 13, indulging in their favorite sports. Liam is an excellent surfer while Cameron is really into football. Joe himself is a sports fan at heart and personally enjoys golfing and free diving.

He’s very excited about being at Hualalai, having been head-hunted yet again, this time by Rob Kildow. “I enjoy getting involved in the community. I enjoy all kinds of people and consider myself open-minded.” Joe said. “Selling real estate in a resort setting just fits the bill for me. I enjoy being able to help people find their paradise and live their dream.”

We welcome Joe to Hualalai. If you’re near the real estate office, stop in and say hello; he’d love to meet as many members as possible.
