Where do you think one of the most unusual individual animal in the world lives? Africa? The Amazon? Australia? Wrong! Kailua Kona is the answer.
The Three Ring Ranch Exotic Animal Sanctuary was founded in 1998 and recently Nick Szubiak took a couple of residents to the Sanctuary to check it out to see whether Hualalai should set up a trip to this unusual place.
Located on five acres in Kailua Kona, the Three Ring Ranch is the only accredited and permitted wildlife rehabilitation and exotic animal sanctuary in Hawaii. Working closely with Hawaii’s State Department of Land and Natural Resources as well as the US Fish and Wildlife Service, the mission of the sanctuary is to offer those visiting, an awareness of the fragile ecology of the islands and of the endangered creatures residing on the property. The sanctuary also hosts pre-veterinary and veterinary students for residential summer internships. Guided tours are available by appointment, so watch for upcoming private tour dates for all Hualalai members over the age of six.
Zoe, a “white” (not albino) zebra is 1 of 2 known to exist in the world. She has lived all her life at the Three Ring Ranch.
