On Monday, March 13th, about forty members attended an informal gathering at Ke ‘Olu with Malcolm MacDonald to discuss what our medical needs may be here, in Hualalai, as well as what the new Adult and Family Medicine Practice Dr. MacDonald is directing at the North Hawaii Community Hospital.
We talked about needing an on-island physician to work with our mainland physicians in many different ways. For example: if you are in chemo therapy on the mainland and want to come over to Big Island, treatment can be arranged over here. If you need certain medications, Dr. MacDonald and his staff can arrange the ordering of the meds. If you are taken ill here, the staff at the clinic in Waimea will have your information on record so they can diagnose and treat more effectively.
We discussed ways of arranging our members signing up so they are covered by Dr. MacDonald and his team. Within a week or so, we will be sending out information about how you can sign up for this new clinic. We will also provide you with information on what to do if you do become ill while you or your guests are staying here, at Hualalai. So, stay tuned.
All of us at the meeting were impressed with Dr. MacDonald and his outreach to our community. We think he will be a major asset to our island.
