The literati, the glitterati, the paparazzi, the puppy-ati and the kittylitterati were all there last Friday night. It was the night of a TROPICAL PAWS. Assembling in the Four Seasons Grand Ball Room were about 300 community supporters of the Hawaii Island Humane Society. And Hualalai Members were well represented. There were fabulous silent auction items that spanned the spectrum from Kona Coffee Baskets to air flights and hotel accommodations. Donations included fabulous local arts as well as custom pet portraits, interior design consultation, local restaurant fair, massages, doggy baths and a telescope. The live auction included some spectacular art work, fabulous furniture and catered parties for twenty. The first estimate is that about 100,000 dollars was raised.
For many of us at Hualalai, we chose not to bring our pets over to the island or we currently don’t have pets, yet we love animals and want to support the organizations that take care of them. Our local Humane Society has many programs that support all animals. The feral cat program helps in reducing the number of wild cats by providing neutering service. Their second chance program takes abused and/or problem pets, places them in foster homes to be rehabilitated and then places them in caring homes.
